Pôjdeme do väčšieho!

As the ranks of the Judo Knights of Rohožník kept growing, our cozy little dojo slowly became too small. The kids are growing, gaining experience, and need more and more space for regular training as well as practice matches. Thanks to the support of the mayor and the municipal office in Rohožník, we received permission to expand the gym into the adjacent rooms. The condition, however, was that we had to approach it as a team and carry out the reconstruction ourselves. And so, we rolled up our sleeves and got started…

The renovation took exactly one month, and to the very day our gym is now about one-third larger and ready for its judokas.

In that one month, an incredible amount of work was done. The first step was demolishing the wall between the dojo and the new rooms, carrying out and removing the rubble from the crumbling floor. Then it was necessary to level the floors with custom-built wooden frames and OSB boards. The old wall paint was peeling in many places, so we decided to scrape it all off and apply new plaster. The guys fixed the wiring, and all the lights in the gym were replaced. The finishing touch was painting, cleaning the entire dojo, removing dust (it was everywhere—absolutely everywhere), and finally laying down and cutting the new tatami mats.

When you sum it up like this, it’s almost unbelievable that we managed to do it in just one month. Especially considering that the men could only work in the evenings after their jobs, on weekends, and in their free days.

A huge thanks goes to Ľudo Csenkey, Dušan Baďura Sr., Rado Petráš and his entire team, Rudo Kožuch, Ivo Raška, Majo Janotka, Michal Dinuš, Maroš and Mirka Hvolkovec, the Jančovič family, the Fialka family, the Binčík family, Erika Kučerová, Erika Botošová, the Muflón family, and Vladimír Strelnikov. I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone…

All these people helped at different stages of the renovation, and some with truly remarkable dedication. A big, big thank you!

One more heartfelt thank you goes to our mayor and to everyone at the municipal office, who not only approved the gym expansion but also supported us with everything we needed. This is what real support for sports and children’s activities looks like. Thank you.

We’re a great team, and this renovation once again showed it in full. When the team spirit is strong, there’s nothing that can’t be done.
